Representatives from our Foundation Andy Cowie and Lizzie Uzzell were delighted to visit the Royal Berkshire Hospital to meet with the Royal Berks Charity. They met with Monica Srivastava, Charity Grants Manager, to present the charity with a cheque to fund their latest project. Our funding will support the purchase of the ‘Airvo 3', a high-flow oxygen machine, in the Paediatric Emergency Department at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. The device will provide improved respiratory support to children whilst they are being transported from the Paediatrics Emergency Department up to the Paediatrics inpatient ward as well as during the duration of their stay within the hospital. Royal Berks Charity raises funds to help drive improvement in patient care and foster innovation in healthcare by buying the latest equipment, enhancing the hospital environment, and championing pioneering and innovative projects beyond what is possible through NHS funding. They work closely with wards and departments at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust to identify projects that drive improvements in patient care. Thank you to Royal Berks Charity for meeting with us and providing insight into how our funding of this device will significantly improve the experience of young patients who need oxygen therapy. The theme for this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week is ‘Movement: Moving more for our mental health’. At James Cowper Kreston, we’re committed to supporting the mental well-being of our colleagues, alongside our physical health - one simple way to do this is by incorporating regular movement into our working day and lives outside of work. We’ve introduced various initiatives to raise awareness about the significance of moving more to reduce stress and anxiety, boost our energy levels and enhance our self-esteem. This includes, lunchtime walking and running clubs, bike rides and the occasional running challenge or marathon! This promotes a healthier lifestyle but also contributes to a positive work environment. Another way we support our staff is with our dedicated team Mental Health First Aiders, who play a crucial role in promoting understanding and awareness while tackling mental health stigma in the workplace. We also have various health benefit schemes including, Physical Wellbeing initiative ‘InstructorLive’, a fitness streaming platform trusted by the NHS. In March, we were delighted to have awarded funding to one of our selected charities from our Autumn 2023 funding round, Film Oxford. Representatives from our Foundation, Bernice Flack and Gabriel Cusato, met with Film Oxford during their ‘Twist and Shout’ Heritage lottery funded programme to meet with some of the participants involved. Geron Swann, Centre Director of Film Oxford and Aimee Winkfield, who handles Communication and Engagement at Rose Hill Junior Youth Club, kindly showed us around the space and gave us insight into the project we are funding. Our funding will support the running of the Rose Hill Film Club, which is a collaborative project between Film Oxford and the Rose Hill Junior Youth Club to work with 12 young people from Rose Hill Estate aged 11 to 25 with learning disabilities alongside a professional filmmaker to produce a short film that promotes youth health and welfare services. The film will focus on what is available locally to young people and will run over 5 days this May half term. This project will give the participants the opportunity to develop their skills and open pathways into further training and other creative careers. Film Oxford is a film and creative arts charity which has been providing training and activities in the community for over 30 years. The organisation aims to enrich the public’s knowledge of film and digital media and support local filmmakers, artists, digital creators and young people through a programme of training, creative support, networking and exhibition. Thank you, Film Oxford, for allowing us to visit your space to see you during your ‘Twist and Shout’ programme. We look forward to seeing the film and the impact it will have on the individuals who participated in the making of the film and the local community. It is great to see the James Cowper Kreston Foundation have provided funding to Longridge on the Thames to provide disadvantaged individuals with the opportunity to enrol in the ‘Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE)’ programme. Representatives from our Foundation, Georgia Burrell and Toby Thorne, recently visited Longridge on the Thames, one of the charities we recently provided funding for as part of our Autumn 2023 funding round. They were delighted to meet with Founder, Amanda Foister OBE and Lead Instructor, Amie Warner to discuss how our funding will be used to provide disadvantaged individuals with the opportunity to enrol in the ‘Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE)’ programme. Longridge Activity Centre is a charity run outdoor adventure centre that provides the opportunity for young people to take part in a range of activities, from high ropes to water sports activities and experience the Thames and its surroundings. Their aim is to increase the accessibility and inclusivity of adventurous activities and to share passion for the outdoors. They work with a wide range of individuals, including charities, SEN/SEMH groups and homeschooled groups. The project we have helped them fund is to run the Duke of Edinburgh programme out of their activity centre. The DofE is a youth awards programme with the aim to support young people's development. They are hoping to run three DofE expeditions per month from March to October. Our funding will provide the equipment that is needed to run the DofE expeditions. The equipment is important to run the programme and enable them to set up the centre as a Licensed Organisation to deliver the award. Thank you to Longridge for allowing us to visit your centre. We look forward to seeing our funding come to life and the benefits it will have for the participants in the programme.
